Vocal consort The Gesualdo Six join forces with trumpeter Matilda Lloyd to present a stunning programme that explores different shades of light through music. Works from the Golden Age of polyphony by Tallis and White are juxtaposed with modern compositions by Roxanna Panufnik, Alec Roth and Deborah Pritchard. Highlights include Sir James MacMillan’s O radiant dawn, an evocative setting from the composer’s Strathclyde Motets, alongside Richard Barnard’s Aura, co-commissioned by the artists.

Described by BBC Music Magazine as a “trumpeter extraordinaire”, Matilda Lloyd is redefining the voice of her instrument on the world stage. Celebrated for her flawless tone, purity of line and dynamic subtlety, Matilda is a radiant force in classical music, captivating audiences with her virtuosic command of the trumpet. In March 2026, Matilda became the first trumpeter to receive the RPS Young Artist Award, being recognised for her bright musicianship, the sunshine emanating from everything she does, and her zeal to get young people making music.

Her critically acclaimed discography with Chandos Records showcases her fearless artistry, combining technical brilliance and expressive depth with innovative programming. Resonance, features a “riveting new account” (Gramophone Magazine) of Weinberg’s Trumpet Concerto with the London Symphony Orchestra, while Casta Diva with Britten Sinfonia and Rumon Gamba reimagines Italian operatic arias with the voice of the trumpet. September 2025 saw the release of Fantasia with organist Richard Gowers, pairing Baroque works by Bach, Krebs, Pachelbel and Martini with four newly commissioned pieces by leading British composers, highlighting Matilda’s ongoing commitment to exploring new possibilities for the trumpet.

2025/26 season highlights included Matilda’s performance of Helen Grime’s Trumpet Concerto night-sky-blue with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Staatstheater Meiningen, and the Lithuanian premiere at the Gaida Festival with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra. She made her Korean debut playing the Haydn concerto with the Korean National Symphony Orchestra and performed the Arutiunian and Hummel Concertos with Gävle Symphony Orchestra, Die Kammerphilharmonie Köln and Bodensee Philharmonie Konstanz. She also performed Robin Haigh’s trumpet concerto LUCK with Ulster Orchestra in December 2025 after giving the world premiere at the Aldeburgh Festival with Britten Sinfonia and Jessica Cottis in June 2024. In spring 2026 she joins pianist Federico Colli for a performance and recording of Shostakovich’s Concerto No. 1 for Piano and Trumpet with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and Dima Slobodeniouk for Chandos Records. Matilda’s debut concerto appearance at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival rounds off the season.

Chamber music collaborations have taken her to Tokyo’s Musashino Civic Cultural Hall for her Japanese debut and to King’s Place London for a new collaboration with the Goldmund Quartet in February 2026. Matilda continues her collaboration with The Gesualdo Six at the Wigmore Hall and in France, following the release of their album Radiant Dawn on Hyperion Records in August 2025, hailed “ingenious” with a 5-star review in BBC Music Magazine.

Music education is very important to Matilda; in September 2025 she was appointed Professor of Trumpet at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London. Matilda regularly gives masterclasses at leading conservatoires and is the Trumpet Studio Head of the OAcademy Artist Diploma in the US. She is an ambassador for the charity Brass for Africa and also mentors young brass players in the UK with Future Talent.

A graduate of Trinity College, Cambridge and the Royal Academy of Music, Matilda Lloyd went on to study under Håkan Hardenberger at the Malmö Academy of Music. In 2014, she won the BBC Young Musician of the Year Brass Final and made her BBC Proms solo debut two years later with Alpesh Chauhan and BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. She has won many prizes at international competitions, including First Prize at the Eric Aubier International Trumpet Competition in Rouen, France in 2017. Matilda is a Yamaha Artist.

The Gesualdo Six is an award-winning British vocal ensemble comprising some of the UK’s finest consort singers, directed by Owain Park. Praised for their imaginative programming and impeccable blend, the group formed in 2014 for a performance of Gesualdo’s Tenebrae Responsories in Cambridge and has gone on to perform at numerous major festivals around the world.

Notable highlights include a concert in the distinguished Deutschlandradio Debut Series, performances at renowned venues including Wigmore Hall (London), Miller Theatre (New York), the Sydney Opera House, and their debut at the BBC Proms in 2023. Last season, The Gesualdo Six made their South American debut in Colombia, and appeared in Japan, China and Singapore for the first time. The ensemble have collaborated with Fretwork and the Brodsky Quartet, and tour two works of concert-theatre, Secret Byrd & Death of Gesualdo, with Director, Bill Barclay.

The Gesualdo Six is committed to music education, regularly hosting workshops for young musicians and composers. The ensemble have curated two Composition Competitions, with the most recent edition drawing entries from over three hundred composers worldwide. The group have commissioned new works from composers including Shruthi Rajasekar, Áine Mallon, and Joanna Marsh, alongside coronasolfège for 6 by Héloïse Werner.

The ensemble have harnessed the power of social media to make classical music accessible to millions worldwide, creating captivating videos from beautiful locations while on tour. The group released their debut recording English Motets on Hyperion in 2018 to critical acclaim. This has been followed by eight further albums (Christmas, Fading, Josquin’s legacy, Gesualdo’s Tenebrae Responsories for Maundy Thursday, Lux Aeterna, William Byrd’s Mass for five voices, Morning Star, Queen of Hearts). Their tenth album, Radiant Dawn, features a special collaboration with trumpeter Matilda Lloyd, and their latest release, Wishing Tree, is scheduled for summer 2026.

Owain Park was born in Bristol in 1993. As well as directing The Gesualdo Six, he is Principal Guest Conductor of the BBC Singers and works with ensembles including Southbank Sinfonia, Chamber Choir Ireland, Ensemble la Sportelle and Capella Cracoviensis. In 2024, he conducted the BBC Singers in a selection of Bruckner motets at the BBC Proms, which served as a prelude to the Berlin Philharmonic’s performance of Bruckner’s Symphony No. 5. He also conducted the BBC Symphony Orchestra in works by Anne Dudley and Iain Farrington as part of the BBC Singers at 100 celebrations at the Barbican.

Owain’s compositions, published by Novello, have been performed internationally by renowned ensembles including the Tallis Scholars and Aurora Orchestra. He studied orchestration with John Rutter at Cambridge University before undertaking a Master’s degree in composition. Currently Composer-in-Residence with the London Choral Sinfonia, Owain was named one of BBC Radio 3’s 31 under 31 Young Stars. The Choir of Trinity College Cambridge recorded an album of his compositions, which was nominated for the BBC Music Magazine Awards. In 2023, his piece Battle Cry, featured on a collaborative album by mezzo Helen Charlston and theorbist Toby Carr, won the Gramophone Award for Best Concept Album.

Owain is President of Cathedral Commissions at Wells Cathedral, supporting new works by contemporary composers. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists and was awarded the Dixon Prize for improvisation, having been Senior Organ Scholar at Wells Cathedral and Trinity College, Cambridge. Owain is also a keen gardener, and when he’s not on stage he can be found raking leaves, pruning shrubs, or picking cherry tomatoes.
